Treks in Himachal
The Himalaya has been divided into various sectors like eastern, central, northern and western Himalaya. Eastern Himalaya have Sikkim and Darjeeling mountains, the central have Kumaun Gharwal mountains of Uttar Pradesh and the western and northern Himalaya consist of all the mountains of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. In all those sectors there are various routes, paths and treks for every type of trekker. In Himachal Pradesh, there are four mountain ranges running parallel to one another and thus have created charming and beautiful valleys and passes suitable for trekking. The Kangra valley lies between the Shivalik and Dhauladhar ranges, Chamba valley has been made by the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges, where as Pangi, Lahaul & Spiti and Kullu valleys are situated between Pir Panjal and Great Himalayan ranges. Thus there are numerous passes on these ranges which connect the valleys on both sides and making good trekking routes for all type of trekkers. One can cross one pass and return over the other pass or proceed further to cross another pass on the next range. There are about two dozen passes on Dhauladhar, a dozen passes over the Pir Panjal range and 8-10 such passes over the Great Himalayan range to cross over the narrow valley of Zanskar and Ladakh of Jammu and Kashmir.
